Wheeler House
The floorplan of this stately traditional home was awkward, especially when the owners were entertaining. The challenge was to make sense of the space while respecting its heritage charm and working within the original footprint. The floor plan was opened, and a large, glazed surface was added at the back of the house to take advantage of splendid views. Space taken up by an awkward fireplace was reclaimed, and a cozy reading nook created. The result is a cohesive space that flows naturally.

“Buildings like this one are a little unconventional, so it took some structural gymnastics to achieve our goals. At the same time, we did everything we could to maintain the heritage feeling.”
